Profile for All Hands and Hearts - Smart Response
Hi Recovers team,
I represent a non-profit disaster relief/recovery organization that has programs in many communities - All Hands and Hearts. We seem to have had someone from our organization create a profile for us years ago, but whoever did it is no longer with the organization. Is it possible to "claim" the profile for our organization so that we can update our profile and the communities/locations we are working in?
Thank you!

Cross-communication among organizers from different organizations
Make it possible for organizers to contact each other by phone or email regardless of what organization each is registered in.

Re: quick question about my last email
Hi,
Just thought of checking if you received my earlier emails. We created a comprehensive guide about disaster preparation, and we’d love to see it included in your list of online resources. Can I send you the link to it?
Sorry if you’re not the right person to contact about this, but could you please direct me to someone responsible for website updates regarding resources on disaster preparation?
Thank you very much, and have a nice day!

create disaster maps for our community.
I would love to be able to print out a map of my emergency shelter and evacuation route while I'm printing out my emergency profile. Can you add maps?

Where and what?
If you can get a list with addresses of all areas victims can be helped: Shelter, food etc with a map perhaps. I can take them and get copies and hand them out. Even if they have a cell, they sometimes have no idea where to look. I know with my self in a crisis I appear to listen but hear nothing, so telling a person in passing will not stick.

just a tweek
I see the number for FEMA here, what I don't see is the deadline to file for help from FEMA. It's July 31st. My family survived the May 3rd tornado and I cannot stress this enough. With all the things on those who lost their homes plate right now, that is too small of a window. We missed the deadline because we didn't know there was one and it really cost us. Posting that deadline will save someone a lot of grief. Please please please post it.

New Features
A few other ideas after our admin conference call last night.
Admins is misleading...
Perhaps have people register as Residents, service providers, or POD's.
When a resident logs in they would be asked to submit their needs and location.
What a service provider logs in for the first time be asked to provide the services they can provide quantities available of that service at any given time location and duration that the services would be available, and their location.
When the POD logs in for the first time They would be asked via check box to select what they had…

Make it link to your homepage - might as well make it a jpeg so you can fix the alaising.

"Featured By"
On your homepage, change "Featured By" to "Featured On" - it looks like you're being presented by CNN, TED, and the like.

Remove Solicitation Footer
It comes across as a little crass (Contact us for pricing!).
Perhaps rename the button to "Explore Financing" or "Prepare your community" Just a hair more ambiguous.

profile
I needed to update a contact so I hit the 'go back' button but instead of going back to the previous page, it went back to the previous section. Perhaps say if need to edit, wait until last page to edit/print?
Also, I had to edit a contact info on last (print) page and that contact went to bottom of list when I wanted it to be the first contact. Somehow should be able to switch number order so I can put first contact back on top.

Multiple levels of Admins
Multiple levels of admin capabilities would allow me to get more community organizers on board to help with need/aid matching, without allowing them to make drastic changes to the site's settings, giving them access to bulk emailing, etc.

Fixing?
If a person just wants to SEE up to date requirements, they should not have to give such personal information as their phone number, etc. The WISH LIST should be available with only a click or two.

Have more Edit links to take one to the exact page
From the Profile page, I wanted to update the location of my emergency supplies. The "Edit" button in that box took me to the Health page, because in the Profile, Emergency Supplies are lumped in with health-insurance and doctor info. It was hard (and slow) to find the right page where I could update my emergency supplies. Please provide an Edit link near each Profile field that takes one directly to the page where that field can be edited. Thanks! - Riley

I live in England where we don't have much going wrong generally but what to dso if the rainy day comes my way?
I look at weather charts a lot and have noticed a few oddities that appear in them when a disaster is imminent. (That region of the Rockies north of Seattle needs watching for instance.)
So what do I do if I see something "interesting"?

Community Resources Inventory.
I need to develop a resource inventory for pre-disaster planning. Can recovers help? We need to know what heavy equipment is available and how to dispatch it, what restaurants can cook with gas when the power fails, who our HAMs are etc. This info needs to be available to the ICS.

Email myself a copy at the end
might be good to have an option at the end, once you have the report, to send a copy to yourself via email, or even to share to a user's Evernote account. (Email I imagine is easier to implement for now ;))

I heard Caitlia on NPR and was very impressed
Here in Ontario in 1998 we had the Ice storm that took down over 8800 hydro poles, + 7 inches of ice on roofs and roads impassable. Power in some cases was not restored for 28 or more days.
Our community was well organized but still this was a storm of a lifetime, we used cell phones analog and CB radio's.
But I agree on the need for a structure in case of emergency, more so today with things like Isis at our door.
Anyway I just wanted to say you did a good thing...
PS. I took my first…
