How can we improve Recovers.org?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Back button on every page

Some pages have back buttons, some don't. The user interface would be friendlier if it was consistent. This mostly blue Contact Us page, for example has no quick way to get to the dashboard.

  2. Make Community Updates interface consistent

Community Updates can be edited from any page by any administrator if accessed through the front page of a community site. However, there is no update button if accessed through the agency pages of the posting agency. This is inconsistent.

  3. Need busy category for volunteers

Right now volunteers are marked either available or unavailable. I have an increasing number of people who are on assignment for a short period of time but will come back to us when that task is done. I was thinking of marking them as "unavailable" so that no one else called them immediately but that confuses these people with those who don't want to volunteer at all any more. A "busy" or "on assignment" tag would be useful.

  4. Put editing help popup wherever organizers edit posts

Somewhere, I can't find it just now, there is a popup that gives html-like tags to use to format posts and updates. There is also a longer reference document. These should be available on every screen that organizers and admins can edit.

  5. On drop down menu under Your Communities

Looks like you have every choice but Resources. This makes it harder for organizers to remember to update the Resources information -- which is among the most important parts of the site. Please add it.

  6. Add filter options

As I work the site it would really be nice to sort out "touched" posts from "untouched" posts. We can now filter by "met/unmet", tags and locked. But often an organizer has made a comment or sent an email but doesn't think it's appropriate to actually lock the post. Particularly with volunteers, it's too easy to skip a post altogether so the volunteer is never contacted. Filtering by those which have had no communication would help.

  7. Ideas for recovers 2.0

    Hi Morgan,

I've been talking with Liza about my experience with scheduling medical professionals during the Northbay Fires and am hoping to offer my experience to Butte County as well. Contact me if you'd like to discuss more thoroughly. Thank you.

  8. Change pictures for inactive sites

It's difficult for new visitors to recovers.org to wade through all the communities or find their own. I suggest we need 5 different stock pictures. 1) for active sites in the first 3 months of a disaster, 2) for pre-disaster preparedness sites, 3) for long term recovery sites that are still in active use 4) for discontinued site and 5) for inactive sites that were never loaded with data.

  9. Study "NeedsList" for upgrade ideas

This site has similar functionality to recovers.org with quite different interface: https://needslist.co/urgent-needs-around-globe
We should study it before completing recovers 2.0 design

  10. Flags

An additional Flag of "No Response" would be useful for volunteers scanning thru to follow up

  11. Improve accuracy of automatically suggested related articles

The search criteria for choosing related ideas is too broad. Most suggestions are off target. I suggest using a learning AI to improve the selection trained with user feedback indicators of perceived relevance.

  12. Make banner reporting that you have successfully logged in smaller

In several places green banners pop up confirming a users actions. This information is useful but the layout needs improvement. Currently they cover up important on-screen information. I suggest making them smaller and have them fade away automatically after 1 minute.

  13. Cross-communication among organizers from different organizations

Make it possible for organizers to contact each other by phone or email regardless of what organization each is registered in.

  14. Please fix my login right away

I'm working in both Sonoma County, CA and Shasta County, CA. I used a new email address when I registered for Shasta so I could move easily between the two communities. Now my Sonoma County login in doesn't work. This is TOTALLY unacceptable. Sorry to freak out but I'm responsible for the Sonoma County site and this morning I can't even get to the back end. Help, help

  15. Call For Code - Innovation And Technology For Good

Dear Morgan and Caitria, I've seen your TED Talk video a while ago and was absolutely amazed by your wonderful initiative. Well done! I'm using this method to try and reach you, as I am not sure how else to do so.

I work for IBM in the UK. I wanted to to make you aware of a programme, Call for Code. I think what you are doing fits so well with what the Call is all about. I'm not sure if you have seen it. Apologies if you have. I'm hoping it will be of interest, but please have…

  16. Gratitude and Improvement suggestions

    Heya,
I have been working with your system about a year ago, through our Helping Hands work in recovery from the flood hitting Lismore, NSW, Australia.
First of all - I want to say thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Your website has been such a helpful tool, and it was so useful in those first weeks. Thank you thank you.

I found a note that I wrote with some suggestions for improvement (yes, it's been a hectic year, who had time to do anything other than work?). I thought it might be a useful feedback, even after…

  17. Re: quick question about my last email

    Hi,

Just thought of checking if you received my earlier emails. We created a comprehensive guide about disaster preparation, and we’d love to see it included in your list of online resources. Can I send you the link to it?

Sorry if you’re not the right person to contact about this, but could you please direct me to someone responsible for website updates regarding resources on disaster preparation?

Thank you very much, and have a nice day!

    Sharon

  18. outdated

First time user. Concept is great. Lot's of functionality, but very little current or credible data. It appears that most of the site has been abandoned. I question how many people will actually use it. All communities should show date of last post on the community search page so that users can see what's current. Love the idea.

  20. Instant Data Centers

Hello I love what you are doing. I came across you from a TED talk and was interested right away based on what we do. We build micro modular data centers that are deployed all over the world. These data centers are weather proof and able to be put almost anywhere. We have even built them with cellular LTE antennas mounted to them to extend the range of cell single brought into the IT gear inside so it better broadcast wifi out. I see it as a bit of an evolutionary step for you if you could partner or offer…
