I am the Chair of RVCOAD in Jackson County Oregon this year. What a year to be the chair! Three weeks ago we experience complete devastation. Over 2,500 homes were lost and 100 businesses devoured by fire. Displaced people were shuttled to our Expo for temporary emergency sheltering. We had only used this site through the pandemic of COVID and had about 140 volunteers. We had several partners already registered (than heavens), so when this hit we became a HUGE asset to the County! We provided them with hundreds of volunteers and met all their needs and then some. We have almost 1,200 volunteer! Media outlets and County statements pushed everyone to use our site and it has worked so well.
I could not imagine handling this situation any other way. We have been thanked multiple times for how well organized we have been and the support from the community has been a perfect match for us. Organizations are now posting their needs direct and getting volunteers themselves without our help. It is so awesome!
